Motorcyclist in fatal Colorado Springs crash

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Thursday, the Colorado Springs Police Department identified the motorcyclist in a fatal crash.

According to police, officers with the Falcon Division were dispatched to the intersection of Briargate Parkway and Chapel Hills Drive on reports of a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a Jeep Gladiator.

At the scene, police say bystanders were performing CPR on the male motorcycle driver. The female motorcycle rider was found in the intersection.

Police say both motorcyclists were treated at the scene and taken to a hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. According to police, the driver later succumbed to his injuries and died. No word on the rider.

CSPD says a further investigation found the Jeep was traveling west on Briargate Parkway and tried making a left, southbound turn on Chapel Hills Drive. During that turn, a motorcycle traveling east on Briargate Parkway entered the intersection and hit the Jeep.

On April 27, the El Paso County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy of the deceased motorcycle driver. The driver has since been identified as 25-year-old Chad Reid.

At this time, police say speed and alcohol are being considered factors in this investigation.

According to police, this was the 11th fatal traffic crash so far this year. This time last year, there were 14 fatal traffic crashes.
