Fire danger continues in Southern Colorado with smoky skies and storms on the Plains

KRDO

Most areas along the I-25 Corridor, the hillsides and High Country remain under a Red Flag Warning through 10 P.M. Wednesday night. That means we expect low humidity levels, and strong gusty winds anywhere from 20 to 40 mph. It will be another smoky evening, as southwest winds will pick up and blow the smoke into communities in the Pikes Peak Region. An Air Quality Alert is in effect for a good part of Southern Colorado until Thursday morning at 9 A.M. Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 50s. There is a slight chance for severe thunderstorms out on the Eastern Plains.

Thursday will bring another day with a High Fire Danger. A Red Flag Warning kicks in Thursday morning at 10 A.M. for the same areas that have seen the Red Flag Conditions over the last couple of days. It will remain in effect through 10 P.M. Thursday night. We could see once again winds from 20 to 40 mph in and around the burns areas and for communities in the the Pikes Peak Region. Southeasterly winds will blow a lot of the smoke into the I-25 Corridor, making for a hazy and smoky afternoon once again for communities like Pueblo and Colorado Springs. It will also be warmer, with highs in the low to mid 90s, and even hotter temperatures out on the Eastern Plains.

Friday could also bring another round of Fire Weather. It will remain smoky through much of the area, and hotter with highs in the mid 90s in the Pikes Peak Region, and over 100 degrees on the Eastern Plains.

The Fourth of July looks to be windy again as well, with partly cloudy skies and hot conditions. We will see highs in the mid 90s for most of us, and much hotter on the Plains.

Sunday looks like we will see a little cooler air move in and what appears to be the first of several chance of rain. We do have a chance of showers and thunderstorms with high in the upper 80s.

The chance for showers and storms on Monday and Tuesday, with high in the lower 90s. This could signal the shift to a wetter pattern next week.
