Medical plane crash in New Mexico claims life of Colorado Springs flight nurse
NEW MEXICO (KRDO) -- A Colorado Springs nurse was confirmed to be among those killed in a medical plane crash in New Mexico on May 14.
According to ABC, four people on board a medical plane were killed when the flight crashed near Ruidoso, New Mexico. Officials say the Beechcraft King Air 90 had departed from Roswell Air Center and was headed to Sierra Blanca Regional Airport when it crashed around 4 a.m.
Jamie Novick's family has set up a GoFundMe for the funeral costs. They say that before becoming a flight nurse, Jamie spent five years as an ER nurse.
Novick is survived by her husband and two kids. One of Novick's close friends tells KRDO13 that Jamie served in the U.S. Air Force before she worked as an ER nurse. She said it was less than six months ago that she became a flight nurse.
Novick was "a damn near perfect person," according to her friends.
Trans Aero MedEvac, the medical flight company, and Generation Jets shared additional confirmed details regarding the aircraft and crew involved in the tragic aviation accident in the Capitan Mountains region of New Mexico during the early morning hours of May 14, 2026.
They say the fixed-wing aircraft involved in the accident was operated by Generation Jets, a longtime fixed-wing aviation partner of Trans Aero MedEvac in Southeast, New Mexico. The aircraft was traveling from Roswell to Sierra Blanca Regional Airport for a medical transport mission when the accident occurred.
Both organizations say they continue to mourn the loss of four extraordinary crew members. Those we lost were more than coworkers. They were family, caregivers, aviators, teammates, and friends who dedicated their lives to serving others with compassion, professionalism, and courage.
The crew members lost in this tragedy were:
- Keelan Clark, Generation Jets Pilot
- Ali Kawsara, Generation Jets Pilot
- Sarah Clark, Trans Aero MedEvac Flight Nurse
- Jamie Novick, Trans Aero MedEvac Flight Nurse
“Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones navigating an unimaginable loss,” said Matt Goertz, Vice President of Trans Aero MedEvac. “Sarah and Jamie embodied what it means to care for others. Their commitment to their patients and their teammates will never be forgotten, and their impact will continue to live on within our organization and the communities they served.”
The Investigation
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), it is very early in the investigation, and only limited information is available at this time.
The agency says an NTSB investigator has wrapped up site documentation and examination of the airplane. The aircraft has been transported to a secure facility for further evaluation.
NTSB investigators are looking into the pilot, the aircraft and the operating environment, per protocol, according to the agency.
Witnesses to the accident or anyone with surveillance video or other information that may assist the investigation are asked to contact the NTSB at witness@ntsb.gov.
