New community group draws attention to woman missing for two weeks in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The family of Yomi Perez is seeking help in finding her, saying that she's been missing for two weeks.

Perez, 42, is a retired Air Force veteran who was last seen on Dec. 10 when her dad dropped her off at the Dunkin Donuts off Academy.

Her family had initially filed a missing person's report on December 9th, and she returned the following day. They report that she seemed "not in her right mind." They also mentioned she had a history of mental illness.

"She actually dealt with it for almost five or six months in her own way. Unfortunately, that was not the right way because it ended up with her being missing," Oscar Perez said.

She went missing again when her father dropped her off at a Dunkin Donuts and she disappeared from there. The tracking device she had on her died that day, and they filed another missing person's report on Dec. 19th, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

"The hardest thing for me, as loving parents, I want to see. I want to ask and call ... I want to call a hotel to see if she's staying there. But every time we do that, we're not able to penetrate," Perez said.

He explained that when he's called hotels in the area, he hasn't been able to find any information about the whereabouts of his daughter.

She's a Hispanic/Latino woman who's five-feet, two inches tall with black/brown hair and weighing 140 pounds; she was last seen wearing a black sweater, black jeans and black boots.

A news conference called by the Colorado Springs People's Coalition was held Saturday morning to raise awareness of Perez' disappearance; the coalition describes itself as "a new, local grassroots organization dedicated to combating injustice and fighting for equality through direct action."

"It's -- it's amazing the amount of support that people for some reason, they share the same feelings that we have, even though they understand its not their daughter," Perez said.

The news conference was held at a downtown mural that highlights missing and murdered indigenous women; the coalition said that Perez's family has filed a missing person's report with the police and that the department is investigating the case.

If you have any information about her disappearance, you're asked to call 719-963-3611.
