Armed suspect arrested at Cheyenne Mountain Resort after crashing car, firing rounds into air
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- A man is now in custody after crashing into a mailbox, firing multiple rounds from a gun, and attempting to leave the scene by running to a ravine along Broadmoor Valley Drive, near the Cheyenne Mountain Resort.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the adult male, whose identity has not been released, crashed a white sedan into a mailbox in the 3800 block of Broadmoor Valley Drive.

He then proceeded to fire multiple rounds from a gun into the air before trying to leave the area by fleeing into the nearby ravine; police believed that Ihe was heading north.
Following reports of the crash and the shots fired, the CSPD issued a shelter-in-place around 10:18 a.m. advising residents that there was an armed suspect with firearms in the area.
As the pursuit continued, the CSPD reported finding a handgun inside the crashed white sedan, along with additional ammunition.
Soon after, police learned that staff at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort had detained the man on the resort's golf course.; exactly how that happened remains under investigation.
Following the detainment, police arrested the suspect and said that he had two handguns "in close proximity to him" at the time of his arrest and a rifle was also reportedly found in the street, in the path of his pursuit to leave the area.
The CSPD reported that no one was injured as a result of the incident, but police know the man fired multiple rounds in the area.

Around 10:45 a.m., the CSPD announced they lifted the shelter-in-place order but advised residents in the area to continue to avoid the scene as police continued investigation efforts.
The shelter in place order has been lifted. Please continue to avoid the area as police continue their investigation.
