Volunteers spruce up nearly 50 Colorado Springs neighborhood schools, other projects

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO)-- Across the City of Colorado Springs, nearly 2,000 community membered gathered together to serve for the Spring "City Serve Day," a day of volunteering coordinated by the nonprofit COSILoveYou.

According to the nonprofit, people worked on 108 different project sites. Around 50 of them were schools across Colorado Springs.

KRDO went out to one of the school sites, Fremont Elementary School. One of the art teachers at the school, Michelle Centers, said the front of the school looked bare before. Now, thanks to the volunteers, the front of the school has been brought back to life.

All day volunteers put in new mulch and rock and painted on part of the buildings. They also cleaned up the playground.

Volunteers also re-painted some of the emergency zones in the drop-off area.

Center's said while these little projects may seem small, they make a big difference.

"The kids brighten and the teachers are so excited. They're always thrilled to see all the work that's done," said Center.

Centers said the school is working to put in more plants and paint the sidewalk at Fremont Elementary in the next couple of weeks.

COSILoveYou's next "City Serve Day," will be October 7, 2023.
