Pueblo Police: Man found in stolen car at a drive-thru restaurant, crashes into police car

PPD

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo Police arrested a man accused of stealing a vehicle after he was found in a drive-through restaurant.

Officers with the Pueblo Police Department were dispatched to a call involving a Motor Vehicle Theft in the 3300 block of Morris Ave. at 7 a.m. Monday. According to PPD, the driver momentarily left the vehicle unattended.

When the driver returned, police said someone was inside their vehicle and driving away. Later, officers found the vehicle in the drive-through of a local restaurant on the city's south side.

One officer approached the vehicle from the front and a second officer approached the vehicle from the rear to box it in. That's when PPD said the suspect tried escaping by driving backward, narrowly missing the police vehicle that was behind him.

However, the suspect still managed to hit an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot.

After hitting that car, the suspect tried driving forward, ramming into the police vehicle in front, causing extensive damage to the police cruise.

The driver, 24-year-old Izia Weybright, then got out of the stolen vehicle and tried running away across Pueblo Boulevard. He was eventually taken into custody without incident a short distance away.

While searching Weybright, police found a .22 caliber revolver hidden in his boot.

Weybright was booked into the Pueblo County Jail for 1st Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft,
Felony Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, and three Restraining Order Violations. He also
had a Contempt of Court warrant for Motor Vehicle Theft and a warrant for Unauthorized Absence.
