Man accused of tampering with election machine found unfit for trial

KRDO

UPDATE: The charges of voter tampering charges against Richard Patton have been dismissed as of Jan. 3, 2024.

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Richard Patton was arrested last year in Pueblo after investigators determined the election machine he was using was tampered with, according to the Pueblo Chieftain.

Investigators said a USB cord was removed from the machine, and the security seals also look to have been messed with. According to investigators, no one could have used the machine after Patton.

Patton denies any wrongdoing and accused an election worker of being responsible for tampering with the machine.

No information is available about why Patton was unfit for trial. However, we know that Patton's lawyer requested the evaluation, and the judge issued a gag order about the case.
