Community invited to pay respects to fallen El Paso Co. Sheriff’s deputy outside of department
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is working to honor a deputy who died in the line of duty Sunday, Aug. 7.
While two deputies and an officer with the Fountain Police Department were responding to a shots fired call in Security-Widefield, the EPCSO said they were met with gunfire. In that shooting, 39-year-old Dep. Andrew Peery lost his life.
Multiple law enforcement vehicles participated in a procession for Dep. Peery, ending at the El Paso County Coroner's Office.
Monday morning, the sheriff's office stationed a patrol vehicle outside of the department as a make-shift memorial. The community is invited to come and pay their respects to Dep. Peery.
The American flag outside of the sheriff's office has also been placed at half-staff to honor Dep. Peery.
According to the EPCSO, he leaves behind a wife and two children. The sheriff's office also confirmed that Dep. Peery was a veteran, once stationed at Fort Carson.
The EPCSO said donations can be made to Peery's family through Chase Bank under the "Hugh Martin Fallen Officers Fund." People are asked to write "Andrew Peery" on the memo line.
