Arrest affidavit: Accused murderer confessed to additional murder while in the Pueblo County jail

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Nicholas Tumblin, the man accused of murdering Eric Trujillo and nearly killing Adam Niederstadt in September 2021 has been served another murder warrant for allegedly killing Raymond Ray Jr.

Ray was found dead in a shack in a remote part of Eastern Pueblo County on August 17th, 2021. Ray was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and chest areas.

Arrest documents obtained by 13 Investigates say Tumblin confessed to murdering Ray while he was being held at the Pueblo County Jail on May 10, 2022. Tumblin was in jail for allegedly shooting and killing Eric Trujillo on September 27, 2021.

Court documents say Tumblin accused Trujillo of killing Ray. Tumblin and his girlfriend, Simone Ibarra, told detectives that Ray owed him $1,000 after allegedly stealing from him.

Tumblin was transported to the shack where Ray was found near 62nd Lane and Garnett Rd. There, documents say, Tumblin walked them through what he and Trujillo allegedly did to Ray.

Tumblin told them Ray was tied up with yellow rope before being transported from the back of a car to a corner of the remote shack. The men made Ray get naked and get on his knees before Tumblin shot and killed him.

He explained the exact route travelled and reenacted the torture and killing, court documents say. Tumblin told detectives who owned the property where the body was disposed of, including that the man lived in Commerce City, Colorado.

Arrest documents say Tumblin expressed remorse for killing Ray because he felt he killed "an innocent man." The arrest affidavit says Tumblin's girlfriend, Simone Ibarra, claimed Ray had raped her before he was killed. She later told Tumblin that wasn't true, according to court records.

Tumblin admitted to killing Trujillo and attempting to kill Niederstadt when speaking to detectives in October, 2021. He has been held in the Department of Corrections since he was arrested on October 6, 2021.

He is being held on no bond.
