Shooting near Colorado Springs high school connected to Citadel Mall shooting

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, the Colorado Springs Police Department confirmed a shooting that happened near a high school was connected to a shooting at the Citadel Mall where a young girl was injured.

On Friday, May 6, police responded to a shooting that happened in the area of N. Academy Blvd. and E. San Miguel St.

According to police, two students were shot off-campus. Those students made their way back to Mitchell High School and reported to their school resource officer they had been shot.

Those students suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, May 18, CSPD says detectives identified a male juvenile suspect and issued an arrest warrant for two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.

Sunday, May 22, officers responded to a reported shooting at the Citadel Mall. During that shooting, a 12-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire and was shot in the chest. Police did say she was in stable condition.

Another juvenile male suffered from gunshot wounds and was also taken to a hospital.

According to police, the juvenile who had been shot at the Citadel Mall was identified as the suspect wanted for the shooting near Mitchell High School. That juvenile was arrested on May 22 for an outstanding arrest warrant.

CSPD says detectives are still investigating the Citadel Mall shooting, no arrests have been made as of Friday.
