Colorado man arrested in Florida after allegedly killing his mother following house fire
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Monroe County Sheriff's Office have arrested the Colorado suspect allegedly involved in the death of his mother following a house fire in Terrain neighborhood in Castle Rock.
According to Castle Rock Police Department (CRPD), 32-year-old Matthew Buchanan was arrested early Tuesday morning by Monroe County Sheriff's Office in Florida Keys.
On Tuesday, April 26, police received a call about a house fire on Dove Valley Place and Paint Pony Circle in Castle Rock.
Police issued a warrant out for Buchanan's arrest for his involvement in the death of his mother, 59-year-old Elizabeth Bjorlow of Castle Rock.
“I’m so proud of our team for their diligent and quick work, and we hope this arrest brings some relief to our community,” Police Chief Jack Cauley said. “We are grateful to the many agencies who assisted us in locating this wanted person.”
Police say Buchanan is now in custody at one of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jails where he will await extradition to the state of Colorado.
Burchanan is facing multiple charges of Second-Degree Murder and Class 2 Felony.
The investigation remains active and open.
