Victim suffers smoke inhalation in Monument house fire

KRDO

MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) -- A 2-alarm fire in Monument on Colonial Park Drive, close to Roller Coaster Road, left one victim needing treatment for smoke inhalation Saturday, according to fire officials.

Andy Kovacs, a Fire Chief, with the Tri-Lakes Monument Fire Protection District, says early Saturday morning, the Fire District received a call about a house fire. Once they arrived, fire officials say there was one male victim outside the two-storyhome.

Kovacs adds that it's believed the victim was transported to Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment via medical helicopter. The status of his condition is unknown at this time.

Crews began tackling the residential house fire. Outside agencies were called in to help, including Black Forest Fire Department, Colorado Springs Fire Department, Monument Police Department, Larkspur Fire, and the Air Force Academy.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire, and there was minimal property damage to the house.

Kovacs added, "Well, thankfully the weather is cooperating with us today. Obviously, we still have a little bit of snow on the ground. Temperatures are down and the relative humidity is up, as well as no wind which is the major driver for the conflagration we saw in Boulder last week."

A fire investigator is at the home determining the cause of the fire.
