Crews prepare for winter weather in Colorado Springs

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- City snowplow operators are already preparing for winter weather. Over 100 operators have begun a mandatory, two-day Snow and Ice Control Training session today.

Throughout the year, these professionals work on other public works maintenance projects like roadway repairs, drainage structure maintenance, and signs and roadway markings maintenance. During winter weather, their attention and focus shift to snow and ice control on the City’s roadway infrastructure.

In the 2020-2021 snow season, there were 23 recorded snow events requiring at least a partial call-out of City snow patrol. The first snow event was on September 8th and the last was on April 20th.

If you would like to apply to be a city snowplow operator, you can find more information here. The city says if you don't see any open positions, it means they are currently reviewing applications. However, if you're interested in that job, check back often and sign up for alerts. The positions are posted frequently.
