Suspect identified in killing of 36-year-old woman in northeast Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Nearly a year after a woman died from being shot in northeast Colorado Springs, police investigators have publicly identified a suspect who's wanted for murder.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, 25-year-old Billy Joe Torrez is facing a charge of first-degree murder for allegedly killing 36-year-old Samantha Morgan in May 2020.

CSPD said last year that officers were called to a local hospital around 1:10 a.m. on May 29, 2020 after Morgan showed up with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The officers spoke to people who took her to the hospital and learned that the shooting happened in a parking lot near 4600 Hinsdale Way.

According to an update from CSPD on Tuesday, investigators identified Torrez as a suspect and got an arrest warrant on March 17, 2021. However, Torrez still hasn't been caught, and the Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force has been trying to find Torrez since the warrant was signed.

CSPD is asking for anyone with tips on Torrez's whereabouts to call 719-444-7000.
