Woman bit, dog shot near downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Police are trying to figure out what happened after a woman was taken to the hospital for a dog bite while the dog survived being shot Tuesday morning near downtown Colorado Springs.

Police were called to a home in the 800 block of E. Kiowa Street for a report of a dog being shot around 10 a.m. Officers found the dog with a gunshot wound, but the dog was running around and appeared to be in good spirits.

According to police, one woman was bitten by her own dog. The woman was taken to the hospital for the dog bite.

The dog was reportedly shot by another person, but police said in a report that it's not clear who fired the shot.

A nearby school was placed on temporary lockdown due to the gunshot.
