Vigil planned Thursday for victims in Mother’s Day mass shooting tragedy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — A local organization is planning a candlelight vigil Thursday night to honor the six victims killed when a shooter opened fire at a birthday party in Colorado Springs on Mother’s Day.

According to Mothers of Murdered Youth, or MOMY, the vigil will take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the entrance to Canterbury Manufactured Home Community in southeast Colorado Springs just west of the airport. 

Organizers are asking people to bring their own candles.

The victims were identified as:
Melvin Perez, 30
Mayra Ibarra de Perez, 33
Joana Cruz, 52
Jose Gutierrez, 21
Sandra Ibarra-Perez, 28
Jose Ibarra, 26

A fundraiser to help pay for funeral expenses for the victims has been set up on Facebook.
