Faith Carino, Colorado Springs student, becomes first to achieve Girl and Boy Scouts’ highest awards in the region
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Faith Carino, a junior at UCCS, has achieved the highest honors as a Girl Scout, earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Gold Award is the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the USA, earned by Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts. Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn the Gold Award.

However, Carino's story doesn't end there. At the time of achieving her Girl Scout Gold Award, she was working to become an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Earning the Eagle Scout rank is a huge feat, considering that only 8% of all Scouts BSA earn that ranking. On February 1st, 2019, the Boy Scouts program allowed girls to join the organization, giving them the opportunity to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Now, girls who are 11 to 17 have a path to earn the organization's highest rank.
Faith Carino will attend a Court of Honor, where she'll be recognized for her latest Eagle Scout ranking accomplishment, on May 8th at the American Legion Post 38.
The 18-year-old has plans to complete her Bachelor's Degree at UCCS while beginning an accelerated Master's program next year. Carino also hopes to expand on her leadership capabilities as a camp director with the Boy Scouts at Camp Laramie Peak in Wyoming this summer.
