Record number of Coloradans vote, more than 300,000 voters cast their ballots in El Paso County

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A record number of voters cast their ballot in Colorado. That's according to Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

For El Paso County, (EPC) the unofficial results are in. According to El Paso County's Election Page, around 67% of all registered voters cast their ballots in the 2020 election. That's a total of 307,509 ballots cast from a total of 454,341 active voters.

In El Paso County, President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence took the lead over Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at 52% and 44% of votes respectively. Also of note, 669 voters cast their ballot for hip-hop artist Kanye West, less than a quarter percent of all voters.

El Paso County voted in favor of Cory Gardner (55%) over John Hickenlooper (42%) for the United States Senator. Overall, Democrat John Hickenlooper won the U.S. Senate seat in Colorado.

With nearly 3 million votes cast before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Colorado has officially surpassed the voter turnout seen in the 2016 presidential election.

That's according to Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, who reported Tuesday morning that 2,893,395 people had successfully voted as of 10 a.m. In 2016, a total of 2,855,257 ballots had been returned, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

By noon, that number rose above 3 million.
