School districts adopt new dashboard program for updated COVID-19 statistics

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As school districts continue to navigate teaching students in the middle of a pandemic, both District 11 and District 20 have created a way to make sure parents can stay in the loop at all times when it comes to COVID-19.
Allison Cortez with Academy District 20 said, “We always want to keep our parents in the loop, but in the time of pandemic we know you cannot communicate enough. So we have to over-communicate.”
So what is this new way of communication? Online Dashboards. With these dashboards, people will be able to go in and know exactly how many students or staff have had to be quarantined, isolated, or tested positive for COVID-19.
Devra Ashby with District 11 said, “The curiosity factor is always going to be there as far as what schools are going to be impacted but more so than that families need to know how their school’s status is.”
The data on the dashboard keeps track of all cases and quarantines dating back to the start of the school year. You can also narrow your search and focus on the exact school that your student may go to.
Cortez says that the volume of these cases has made it challenging to get the public timely info, so she hopes this dashboard will help with that.
"This gives an easy place for everybody to put their information so we can get it out quickly," Cortez said. "We don’t have to wait until the of the day to have a big huddle to talk about that.”
And same goes for District 11, Ashby says this new system will be easier for everyone involved and made sure the website was as easy as possible to navigate by listing off instructions on how to use it right at the top.
“Not everybody is tech-savvy and it’s very nice to have something at your fingertips that can easily get you the information that you need,” Ashby said.
