Colorado Springs’ Festival of Lights to reverse roles for 2020

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Festival of Lights in Colorado Springs is going to be a bit reversed for 2020: instead of staking out a spot along downtown to watch the floats go past, you'll be the one going past the floats as they stay in their spots.

The city's big holiday display generally attracts tens of thousands of people to downtown Colorado Springs, but that won't be happening due to social distancing requirements around COVID-19.

So instead, the parade committee is partnering with The Broadmoor World Arena to flip the script this year. Parade entries will remain in place while spectators drive by them in their own vehicles.

“We are really excited to have come up with a workable solution to continue our annual celebration of the holidays,” says Jeff Wilson, Festival of Lights Board Chair, “We believe people are hungry for celebration and connection and will be ready to view the Parade in this new format.”

The event is free, but you'll need to get tickets for timed reservations in advance from The Broadmoor World Arena.

Entrants will also be limited due to the format, so if you want to be featured in the parade, you're encouraged to sign up early. You can submit an application at www.coloradospringsfestivaloflights.com.
