Colorado College moving classes online, reducing number of students residing on campus due to COVID-19
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- After reports of an outbreak and multiple COVID-19 positive cases at Colorado College, the school announced Tuesday that all classes are temporarily moving to remote delivery.
CC, located in Colorado Springs, said the change applies to all classes for the remainder of Block 1 in the fall semester, but many classes will stay in "remote delivery" for the rest of the semester.
The change comes after KRDO reported quarantines at the school affecting more than 100 students earlier this month. At least 10 students have tested positive for COVID-19.
An update will be given on Thursday regarding the status of the rest of the semester.
The school says it's also reducing the number of students living on campus. Students were told they should plan to leave campus by Sept. 20 unless they're enrolled in an in-person or hybrid class that's still being provided this fall.
"We regret that we cannot accommodate all of our students on campus. This is a difficult decision for us, and we know it is disappointing for so many of you," the school said in a statement.
Students KRDO spoke with say they are disappointed this happened but were not exactly surprised. "We all wanted to have the college experience for our first year but that's just kind of not really a possibility right now no matter what," said freshman Greer Bleyl.
One thing students were concerned about was paying for room and board even though they were asked to leave. “My biggest immediate reaction was just concern for the money that we are putting into room and board which I assume will be given back or in some way compensated," said freshman Dore Young. “I think it’s a concern for all of us cause if we are not going to be living here then we don’t want to be paying either for a full semester,” said Bleyl.
However, on Colorado College's website, it says the college will credit the accounts of all students living in the dorms that were quarantined.
