District 60 high schools in Pueblo to start year with remote learning
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- School District 60 in Pueblo says high schoolers will start the year with remote learning next week.
The decision was made Tuesday morning to place high school students on a remote learning plan because their class schedules are more personalized, and it's harder to maintain social distancing. There's no timeline yet for how long the students will be on a remote learning plan.
High schools in Pueblo were set to have students back on campus starting Monday, Aug. 31.
Pueblo County has seen 810 total cases of COVID-19, and a little over 10% of those have been in people 19 and under, according to data from the Department of Public Health and Environment.
Elementary school students will still be back on campus four days a week, and middle school students will stay on the hybrid remote plan.
On Tuesday, KRDO was given an inside look in Haaff Elementary School as teachers continue preparations before school starts back up on Monday.
“We want our students to feel excited about being back at school," said Betsy DeCesaro the Principal at Haaff Elementary. "We want them and their parents to feel safe, but we don’t want them to feel like everything is so different that it’s frightening.”
This is a developing story, we'll update this article when D60 provides more information on the remote learning plan.
