GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pine Gulch Fire burning north of Grand Junction is 44% contained as of Monday, as firefighters continue to build a line around the huge wildfire.

The fire, which has burned 133,783 acres as of Monday, is close to being named the largest wildfire in the state's history. It was started by lightning on July 31.

Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order Saturday declaring a state of disaster emergency in response to the fire, which is burning in Mesa and Garfield counties.

The executive order allows Colorado agencies to coordinate and make resources available for fire suppression, response, consequence management and recovery efforts.
