Gov. Polis gives update on COVID-19 response in Colorado, Aug. 21
DENVER (KRDO) -- Colorado Gov. Jared Polis is giving an update on the state's response to COVID-19 on Friday.
Watch below:
Governor Jared Polis announced the last call for alcohol at bars and restaurants was getting extended to 11 p.m.
Starting on Saturday, they will be able to serve alcoholic drinks an extra hour after a restriction was put into place one month ago.
"The policy is being modified and of course we'll continue to evaluate future steps. My hope is it could be midnight as soon as possible, and hopefully the data will bear that out," Polis said.
It will be another month before the governor extends the restriction any further.
He credits the extensions to a decrease in Colorado COVID-19 cases, particularly for adults aged 20 to 29.
"Everybody is trying to figure out how people can have a nightlife experience during the pandemic without setting society and economy back and losing tens of thousands of lives of other innocent countrymen and women."
According to the Colorado Department of Health and Environment's new data portal, young adults make up 21% of all COVID-19 cases in Colorado.
As of Thursday, the state reported that 1,800 people have died due to COVID-19. A total of 645,170 people have been tested, with 53,901 positive cases.
