EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A truck driver has been taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a rollover Friday morning that spilled a load of hot liquid tar across Highway 85/I-25 at South Academy Boulevard.

Colorado State Patrol was called to the crash at 10:30 a.m., which happened as a semi truck was traveling down the off ramp from South Academy Boulevard. The truck tried to make a left turn on northbound on the highway but became out of control and rolled onto its right side. CSP said the tanker spilled as much as 4,000 gallons of tar on the road and on private property, causing a hazardous materials incident.

The Hazardous Materials Response Team from El Paso County responded to the scene. Highway 85 was closed for over eight hours as the initial response took place. More clean up is expected to happen over the next couple days.
