US Space Command calling Peterson AFB home for the next 6 years
PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. (KRDO) -- The official home for Space Force still hasn't been announced yet, but Sen. Cory Gardner provided an update Friday saying that Peterson Air Force Base has been selected as the provisional headquarters for U.S. Space Command for the next six years.
The announcement doesn't change much in way of current operations, but it does secure Colorado Springs as the home base for all military space operations in the U.S.
“Today’s announcement is historic for Colorado and the future of U.S. military operations in space. With our existing military space infrastructure – whether at Peterson Air Force Base, Buckley Air Force Base, Schriever Air Force Base, the National Space Defense Center, U.S. Northern Command, or North American Aerospace Defense Command – Colorado is the perfect place for and now home to U.S. Space Command,” Gardner said.
Last September, US Space Command was temporarily established at Peterson Air Force base.
