Gov. Polis orders flags lowered to half staff Friday for Peace Officers Memorial Day
DENVER -- This Friday, all Colorado and American flags on public buildings statewide are expected to be lowered in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
In a release from the Governor's Office Wednesday, Polis said he's ordering these flags to be lowered to commend the brave men and women who serve communities across the state and nation.
"During uncertain times, law enforcement officers bravely face challenges and continue to protect the American people. They steadfastly ensure the safety of our communities, providing a much needed sense of security for our citizens, and our country is extremely grateful for their efforts," said Polis in the prepared statement.
Peace Officers Memorial Day was proclaimed to be May 15, 2020 by President Donald Trump.
"I call upon all Americans to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and activities," said Trump in a statement provided by Gov. Polis's office. "I also call on the Governors of the States and Territories and officials of other areas subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day. I further encourage all Americans to display the flag from their homes and businesses on that day."
