Crowley County prison reports 35 new cases of COVID-19

OLNEY SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- In a report shared Friday by the Otero County Public Health Department, KRDO is learning of an outbreak at a prison in Crowley County.

The Crowley County Correctional Facility says 35 of their inmates recently tested positive for COVID-19, with a total of 37 inmates testing positive. A total of 299 inmates were tested and the facility is on lockdown. All positive inmates have been isolated for several days, according to the release. The transmission appears to be contained to one pod in the facility.

Otero County Public Health and the state health department are investigating. Their initial findings suggest that most of the positive inmates were asymptomatic, reads the report.

In total, Crowley County now has 39 positive cases and one death.
