Gov. Jared Polis gives update on COVID-19 in Colorado, May 6
DENVER (KRDO) -- Colorado Gov. Jared Polis will be speaking to media and answering questions about the status of COVID-19 in the state.
Watch below starting around 1:30 p.m.:
Governor Polis gave an update on Colorado's efforts to make sure there is enough gear for health workers on the frontline. As of now the State has purchased 2.5 million surgical masks, half a million N95 masks, 1.6 million gloves, and more. However, Polis still wants to increase those numbers and says the State has a lot of purchases in the works but he also explains why it's a long, complicated process.
"The stories that we have of purchases that didn't happen; some are outright scams, some are inferior equipment some needed to be tested and verified," Polis says, "People trying to sell things they don't have but we have been successful in navigating these waters as a State."
The Governor also addressed those who say the Safer at Home Order is violating their rights as more and more people call for the State to reopen. "You're free, no one is stopping you from taking walks, going into the store, going into work," Polis says, "You can do all that."
On Tuesday a Calhan restaurant opened its dining room to customers defying the order because the owner says they can't afford to stay closed. The workers at Karen's Kafe not required to wear face masks or gloves. While tables were placed six feet apart and there were signs in the restaurant asking for people to social distance, it wasn't happening.
Polis says it's everyone's civic duty to follow these guidelines, "For the few Coloradans who feel their liberties are being threatened, I ask them to also exercise their own personal responsibility to protect themselves, their families, and others."
