Parks and Wildlife: Firefighters make great progress at fire near John Martin Reservoir State Park
BENT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A wildfire that started Thursday evening and prompted evacuations at nearby state park is now under control, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The fire east of John Martin Reservoir State Park had burned over 500 acres and was at 50% containment by 10 p.m. Thursday. In an update Friday afternoon, CPW said favorable conditions allowed crews to "make great progress" containing the fire along the Arkansas River.
Park Manager Dan Kirmer told CPW that all non-local fire teams have left, with just local Bent County crews monitoring the clean up.
KRDO has calls into local officials for more details. Check back here for updates.
