COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It's a happy day at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as staff welcomed five new feathered friends. The latest additions are African penguins and the first inhabitants of the zoo's newest exhibit, Water's Edge: Africa.

In a statement to KRDO Saturday, zoo officials said that four of the penguins came all the way from San Francisco. They're actually a little penguin family -- mom Safara, dad Alex, and their two sons, Rudo and Rufaro. The fifth penguin took a short drive down from the Denver Zoo.

The penguins will spend the next couple weeks settling into their new home. CMZ says they plan to add more African penguins from around the country.

Although the zoo remains closed until further notice, construction on the new exhibit, Water's Edge: Africa, continues.
