A release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation detailed that deputies were responding to a residence just after 5:30 p.m. for a call about an armed suspect allegedly making threats.

A sheriff's deputy was working to negotiate with the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Lawson. The negotiations lasted about three hours until just after 8:30 p.m. That's when responding officers shot Lawson after he allegedly pointed a firearm at them, said CBI.

He pronounced dead on scene. No deputies were injured.

The CBI requested to investigate the incident along with the 15th Judicial District Attorney's Office. The deputy involved in the incident will not be named at this time, said the release.
