MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- An investigation is underway after a motorcycle and SUV collided at an intersection, killing the motorcycle rider.

The crash happened Saturday evening just after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Morning Mist Drive and Hancock Expressway. The rider was ejected and died on scene despite life saving measures, said CSPD. Police saythe driver of the SUV did stay at the scene and wasn't injured.

Police say their initial investigation suggests that impairment was not a factor, but the motorcycle rider might have been traveling at an excessive speed. The rider was wearing a helmet, said police. No charges have been filed at this time.

This is the first motorcycle fatality in Colorado Springs of 2020 and the sixth traffic fatality overall, said CSPD.

Anyone with information or who is a witness to this investigation is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at (719) 444-7000; or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-STOP (7867) or 1-800-222-8477.
