What you need to know for Colorado’s Super Tuesday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Election day is here, which means drop boxes and polling centers are going to be busy, so here are a few things you should know if dropping off your ballot on Super Tuesday.
First and foremost, all ballots must be returned to one of the 34 ballot box dropoffs by 7 p.m. or it won't be counted. You can vote at a polling place before then, but you better be on time.
El Paso County Clerk and Recorder Chuck Broerman said, "Those that are in line as of 7 o'clock will be able to have their ballot processed, their vote count; however, 7:01 [p.m.], that's the deadline."
You might be wondering, what if you've already sent in my ballot, but your candidate has already dropped out? You can't vote again, but if you filled out your ballot and hadn't returned it yet, you still have an option.
"They want to consider another choice? They can come into our vote centers, surrender that ballot and we will issue them another. They cannot put a ballot in the mail or in the dropbox and them come to our vote center and try to vote again," said Broerman.
Election results will be released at various times throughout the evening starting with the first results being posted around 7:15 p.m.
Broerman said, "The votes that will be posted shortly after 7 p.m. will be all the votes that have been processed through signature verification and tabulation as of yesterday evening. That's probably going comprise of 75-80 percent of the vote."
While a winner is likely to be declared late Tuesday night, the final official results will be released eight days from now. We will keep you updated throughout the evening.
