High winds, blowing snow make for dangerous driving conditions in Southern Colorado
MONUMENT, Colo. (KRDO) -- High winds mixed with snow flurries scattered across Southern Colorado made for a bitterly cold Tuesday morning.
For the second day in a row, blowing snow rolled in and limited visibility, making driving conditions difficult.
Monday caught many drivers off guard with a snow squall.
Tom Silva said, “Got the alert on our phones, a row of us going beep, beep, beep. We are looking out the window at blue skies and thinking what is the National Weather Service doing down there and then 10 minutes later we look out the window and say, 'Oh, it really was here.'”
Tuesday's storm was a lot longer and more sustained.
Along with the limited visibility, the high winds made for a wind chill in the single digits.
Michael Walton said, "I mean it’s cold, I’m definitely underdressed. It’s terrible.”
Silva added, “The pumps here don’t like my car and I have to hold it the whole time. I think my hand is still working a little, bit chilly.”
And you can tell just how strong the wind gusts are by seeing the snow constantly blow across the road. Drivers say grip the wheel tight.
Silva said, “It gets a little tricky. I always try to stay clear of the big trucks, they seem to have a hard time.”
And as I mentioned it is absolutely freezing, so make sure you bundle up before you head outside.
