CDOT plans for dangerous, snowy conditions after Sunday’s warm weather
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As the clouds rolled in, the temperature continued to drop Monday. Sunday felt like spring but starting Monday, winter made a swift comeback.
Michelle Peulen with CDOT said, “Our snow shift, we are already on that. What that means is that all crews are on 12-hour shifts. 12 hours on, 12 hours off for the duration of the storm.”
Peulen said that even though it was nice out this past weekend, crews are still fully prepared and will be ready for Monday night's storm.
“Whether it’s a holiday, a weekend, Super Bowl Sunday, our crews are pretty much working 24/7. This nice warm weather definitely gave us the advantage to prepare for the incoming storm,” she said.
With 30-35 mph winds expected during tonight’s evening commute, things could get rough. CDOT says if you can leave work early then please do.
“It might make some sense to plan your travel home a little early today. Tomorrow, if you could delay your commute, especially if you are going through the gap area. We expect Monument Hill and the Palmer Divide to get hit pretty hard with this storm,” said Peulen.
As for potential trouble spots, Peulen said CDOT will focus mostly on heavily traveled roads. “So I-25 gets a lot of focus as well as US-24, US-50,” Peulen said.
As for the city of Colorado Springs, they applied pre-treatment to the roads early this morning. The evening shift reported at noon for a full call-out.
