Family identifies teen killed in Pueblo shooting
Family members have confirmed to KRDO that it was 15-year-old Robert James Sandoval who was killed in a shooting Sunday afternoon in Pueblo's lower east side.
The teen, known among friends and family as RJ, was shot in an alleyway near 1700 E. Ash Street at about 2 p.m. Sunday. Neighbors called police and reported hearing gunshots, but they said they feared the shooting was gang-related.
It's not yet clear what led to the shooting. Police tell us they're still investigating leads, and the coroner's office said Monday an autopsy was being performed.
Sandoval's Facebook page says that he's from Walsenburg; his family members tell us he was in Pueblo visiting his girlfriend and his girlfriend's family.
No description of a suspect has been given yet. Police are asking anyone who may have information about the investigation and/or know the identity of the suspect(s) to contact the Pueblo Police Department.
