Customers at Fountain liquor store hold down would-be robber

FOUNTAIN, Colo. -- Police arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to rob a liquor store on Santa Fe Avenue Monday evening.

But the suspect, identified as 29-year-old James Mason, didn't get what he came for.

Mason entered the High Spirits Liquor around 6:45 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk, saying that he had a weapon, according to the Fountain Police Department.

That's when two customers saw what was happening and took action. Police say the customers held down the suspect until officers arrived.

Mason was booked on the following charges:

  • Aggravated Robbery
  • Menacing
  • Theft

Police say this continues to be an active investigation.
