Bicyclist dies after being struck from behind in north Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs police identified a bicyclist who was killed in a crash on N. Cascade Ave. Friday.

CSPD says 49-year-old Heiko Leach was riding his bike south on Cascade Ave. north of Fillmore Street when he was hit from behind by someone driving a Chevrolet sedan. The crash happened at about 2:23 p.m. Friday

Police say the driver of the sedan crashed into a signpost on the left side of the road shortly after hitting the bicyclist. The driver was seriously injured.

Heiko died from his injuries later Friday evening, according to police. He wasn't wearing a helmet when the crash happened.

Police are still investigating, but no charges have been filed as of Tuesday.
