Largest wildfire in Colorado history is now 100% contained

DENVER - The Bureau of Land Management says the largest wildfire in Colorado’s recorded history is now 100% contained.

The so-called Pine Gulch Fire started in western Colorado on July 31 due to lightning and was announced as contained on Wednesday.

KUSA-TV reports the fire burned over 217 square miles of remote land.

The fire surpassed the Hayman Fire in 2002 as the largest recorded in the state. The 2002 fire burned over 215 square miles.
