Fremont Coroner identifies Canon City fire victim

CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- UPDATE: The Fremont County Coroner has identified the individual who died during Sunday morning's duplex fire in Canon City.

71-year old Canon City resident Ingrid Heibel died as a result of the fire in her own apartment on the 100 block of Weaver Lane. After initial reports, Sunday's fire appears to be accidental.

Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller says an autopsy will be performed on Tuesday.

ORIGINAL STORY: Cañon City authorities are investigating the cause of a fire Sunday morning after a woman was confirmed to have died.

Around 10:30 a.m. a structure fire was reported in the 100 block of Weaver Lane, according to the Cañon City Fire Protection District.

Crews found active flames and smoke coming from a duplex, and quickly brought the blaze under control. No other structures were damaged.

A fire district spokesman confirmed that an adult female died from the fire, but her identity is being withheld until her family is notified.

No firefighters reported injuries, Cañon City FPD said in a release Sunday afternoon. The cause and origin of the fire is still under active investigation at this time.
