The School Buzz: D49’s ‘Santa’s Toy Express’ Comes Through For Students Yet Again

Bus drivers in D-49 led another holiday charge that's spread holiday cheer for dozens of students and their families.

The Santa Toy Express is a yearly D-49 December mission to help students in need leading up to the holiday season. It has relied on volunteers for years. And this year was no exception.

Last Saturday, over 50 students were hand-selected to participate. The group was picked up bright and early and taken to a holiday breakfast before embarking on a trip to Walmart to Christmas shop for their family.

After the shopping, students were bussed back to D-49 headquarters where they wrapped gifts. There was a visit from Santa as well; they were even given a big bag full of presents for themselves at the end of the day.

Shauna Orth is the transportation manager She said, "We do this every year to assist students and families facing hardships during the holiday season ... It's all about spreading Christmas cheer."
