The School Buzz: 3 remarkable grads from Lewis-Palmer D38

Lewis-Palmer D38 has three very impressive seniors who are graduating.

Edwin Flores-Caballero is a Lewis-Palmer High School graduate who’s been a huge leader on the soccer team. Not only did he lead them to the state playoffs two years in a row as an All-State soccer player, this past year he mentored a new student on the team while he wasn’t able to play. His GPA is 3.98. He was Academic All-State First-Team two years in a row. He manages the wrestling team. He’s on National Honor Society, works as a pet sitter, and helps new Spanish-speaking students with translating and their classwork. Edwin has been accepted to UCCS and CSU.

Amber Wright is a Palmer Ridge High grad who was captain of the debate team, and was National Honor Society’s director of community service. She was on Key Club and was also the co-editor of the school paper. She even organized the school’s blood drive last October. She was also a volunteer with Colorado Springs Teen Court and co-leader with Sons of Rachel and kindness club. Amber wants to pursue a legal career. She was the debate team captain, after all. She plans to attend CSU with a scholarship from the U.S. Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps program.

And Makenna West is also a Palmer Ridge High grad. She will attend Wingate University in North Carolina this fall where she will play field hockey. She’s a Merit Scholar who was also All-State and All-Conference in field hockey. She’s mentored new players and received the school district’s Aliorum De Award for her work tutoring special-need students. She hopes to be a P.E. teacher.
