The School Buzz: Two incredibly impressive graduates leave Coronado HS with promising futures

One graduate is already a champion with the Olympic Committee. Another is already in tune with some of the best young musicians in the country. Coronado High School in Colorado Springs certainly has two very impressive graduates leaving their campus this month.

First, William White was a varsity team captain for tennis, basketball, and track. He represented D-11 to be a student rep on the Parks, Trails and Open Spaces Committee for the city. And he is also a rep on Young Champions with the Colorado Springs Olympic Committee.

William will attend Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee this fall, majoring in Medicine, Health and Society.

Second, Sophie Urban is quite an outstanding musician who graduated from Coronado last week. She has performed with the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, the Colorado All-State Orchestra, CU Honor Band, and the Colorado Springs All-City Honor Band. She was even the winner of a highly prestigious award given by the National Young Arts Foundation in Classic Music for trumpet. And, in January she was selected to the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America for the 2021 season which is presented by Carnegie Hall, of course, which showcases the best young orchestral musicians in the country. On top of all her musical accomplishments, Sophie was even the President of Coronado’s National Honor Society and a varsity tennis player.

Sophie will attend Rice University Shepherd School of Music in Houston majoring in Trumpet Performance.
