The School Buzz: Vanguard ‘Matchwits’ win class in inaugural National Knowledge Bowl Tournament

If knowledge is power, the Vanguard School has royalty within its halls.

The Matchwits team at the high school recently won first place in their class in the inaugural National Knowledge Bowl Tournament at the beginning of the month. If you’re unfamiliar with Knowledge Bowl, it’s an academic trivia competition where teams of students face off against other teams from other schools.

Josh Stein, Owen Beute, Ciera Hale and Will Stone make up the Matchwits team, while teacher Kyle Bishops serves as coach.

Vanguard School Executive Director Colin Mullaney is thrilled with the team.

"I am so proud of our Matchwits Team!" he said. "They have persevered in academics and extra-curriculars through this unusual, COVID-impacted year, and they practiced, came together, and succeeded in an entirely new Matchwits environment.  I couldn't be prouder of who they are and what they have accomplished."
