Security guard in Aspen attacked by a bear on Oct. 23

ASPEN, Colo. (KRDO)-- A bear attack at the St. Regis Aspen Resort has found one man in the hospital.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) responded to the incident around 11 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, after being notified of a bear attack inside the kitchen of the hotel.
The victim, a male security guard, was transported to a hospital by an ambulance with injuries to his back.
According to CPW, while in the kitchen, the security guard surprised the bear as he was going around a corner into another area of the kitchen.
The bear attacked the guard, swiping at him, and knocked him down to the ground.Â
The guard was able to get away from the bear and call 911, where he was taken to a hospital to receive care for scratches to his back.
CPW officials stated he was later released from the hospital on the morning of Tuesday, October 24.
Just after midnight, that same day, CPW officers went to investigate and search for the bear.Â
During the investigation, wildlife officers learned the bear had entered the hotel through a series of doors near the courtyard.
They reported getting a description of the bear, including specific identification markers to assist in locating and properly identifying the bear.
CPW wildlife officers remained in the area to search for the bear responsible for the attack and reported finding the bear in an area near the hotel.
Due to public safety, however, they were unable to safely tranquilize and capture the bear and stated officers would return to the area and continue search efforts Tuesday evening.
At this time, no further information has been released about this incident.
