Colorado Springs Utilities experiences data breach, customer data compromised

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Utilities is warning customers about a data breach that happened in June, affecting customer information.

On July 6, Colorado Springs Utilities was notified that customer data stored by one of the company's subcontractors was accessed by an unauthorized party. According to Springs Utilities, this happened on June 15, 2022.

The information included customer names and addresses, account numbers, and in most cases, phone numbers and email addresses.

However, Springs Utilities said no sensitive financial data, like social security numbers or cred card information, was compromised.

Anyone impacted by the information breach will receive a letter in the mail within the next few days from Colorado Springs Utilities.

Colorado Springs Utilities says the company has evaluated the accessed file and reviewed all the content. The service company confirmed the third-party subcontractor didn't have access to financial information like social security numbers and credit card numbers.

If you received an unauthorized call or email claiming to be from Colorado Springs Utilities, you should not respond to the call or email. Instead, call the service center at 719-448-4800.
