Colorado Springs celebrates “Get Outdoors Day”

Colorado Springs Get Outdoors Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Saturday, Colorado Springs celebrated "Get Outdoors Day" by hosting an event aimed at allowing people to experience everything the Pikes Peak region has to offer.

A variety of outdoor businesses and nonprofits took part. Some of the activities highlighted were biking, kayaking, paddle boarding, fly fishing, mapping and shooting just to name a few. A bigger message and takeaway from today was teaching our community how to do those things safely.

"What you're going to see in mind is how to do these activities safely. How to go kayaking or stand up paddle boarding safely and enjoy this beautiful lake that's around us."

Tim Kroening - Colorado Parks and Wildlife

The celebration is back after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Roughly 3,000-5,000 people took part and if all the activities at the event today weren't enough, Colorado Parks and Wildlife also gave away 800 free fishing poles. Admission to the event was also free.
