Gas prices in Colorado Springs continue to rise

MGN

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- As of Monday, August 9, the average cost per gallon of gas in Colorado Springs is higher than the national average.

According to a GasBuddy price report. Colorado Springs gas prices rose 9.2% per gallon in the past week. As of Monday, the average cost per gallon is $3.63. That's 17.1 cents per gallon higher than in July.

In 2020 this time, gas was $1.24 cheaper.

GasBuddy reports the highest-priced gas in Colorado Springs is $3.99 and the cheapest station is priced at $3.34.

Gas in Colorado Springs is significantly higher than the national average, which is $3.18. However, the national average price of gas rose 0.6 cents per gallon within the last week. Compared to last month, the national average is up 3.5 cents and is $1.02 higher than in 2020.

Colorado Springs gas prices are higher compared to Denver. In the Denver area, the average price per gallon is $3.60, up 7.2 cents per gallon from last week.

The state average price per gallon as of Monday is $3.64, up 4.7 cents per gallon.

However, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, believes the gas prices should decline with the summer season winding down.

"Motorists have seen average gas prices edge slightly higher over the last week, even as the price of oil saw selling pressure. This leads me to believe that the tide may soon turn on gas prices, so long as we don't see hurricanes target the country," said De Haan. "With the factors that drive prices higher now softening, I'm hopeful that in the next few weeks, we'll start to see average gas prices declining."

Motorists won't immediately feel that relief, though. According to GasBuddy, larger declines won't likely happen until late September and October.
